New Boards of Canada Snippets?

How bad do we all want a new Boards of Canada album that we're willing to scrutinize little tidbits like this? Seriously though, I'm loving that guys like BOC and QOTSA are bringing back the mystery of album releasing in the age of the internet where everyone knows everything right away.

Ghost BC - Secular Haze Live in Linkoping

And to be complete I should post this as well. LOVE the stained glass in the background.

Both these last two posts for Secular Haze can be found - along with a WEALTH of awesome imagery that will only further enhance the perona of this amazing band - on their website, which can be accessed via the following links.

Ghost BC - Secular Haze

I'm so wrapped up in this ghost record right now that I'm revisiting a lot of the tracks and images released in the lead-up to it. I realized I never posted this one.

This and Nick Cave and the Bad Seed's Push the Sky Away are easily going to rank in my top ten of the year.

New Track from The Ocean's upcoming Pelagial Record

Thanks to blabbermouth.net for posting these. I cannot wait for Pelagial - The Ocean (sometimes known as The Ocean Collective) became one of my favorite bands a couple of years ago when I discovered 2004's Fluxion. After chewing on that record for about a year I dove in and bought everything else the band had done. I loved all of it and constantly marveled at the versatility with which Robin Straps and crew turned any conventions associated with heavy music on their ear without ever sacrificing the 'raging slab' factor of the art. Then in 2010 the group put out two records - Heliocentric and Anthropocentric. They are an examination of religion, but not in the typical metal fashion. Both of those records - which saw the group with a new vocalist - are absolute masterpieces that transcend any genre trappings even more than the group already had. I can't say this enough, they are amazing. Fans of Mike Patton and Faith No More may especially want to look into them (they even had the amazing packaging for both records designed by long-time Patton art designer Martin Kvamme).

The Flaming Lips - Ashes in the Air

Today the new Besnard Lakes album comes out, as well as the latest from Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine, which is Mr. Biafra's first concept album - I think - since The Dead Kennedy's Frankenchrist. I say this to help stomach the fact that the new Flaming Lips record - The Terror - isn't out for another two weeks. The video above was just released - I found it on the always diligent Brooklyn Vegan - but was from the  The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends.

Yeah Yeah Yeah's Sacrilege - The Video

I kept thinking the 'video' I posted the other day for the Yeah Yeah Yeah's new song Sacrilege was a little... boring. But hey, I always figure, "who the hell am I to judge?" Anyway, thanks to Brooklyn Vegan I've realized I was indeed incorrect. The video is above, as I'm sure you've already gathered.

Queens of the Stone Age Return in June

Of course the one day I don't check their website is the day it updates and they announce the release of their new record, apparently entitled Like Clockwork, will be in June. If you go to their website, here every time you hit the refresh you'll hear another snippet from the new record. But I do mean snippet. As in a couple of seconds worth. It's cool, but not nearly enough to get me through to June.

More info here at Antiquiet who "broke" the info last night or here at Pitchfork.

Fen's New Album Dustwalker

Somehow a new album by the band Fen came out on January 25 and I missed it entirely!!! Here's the first song I could find on the ol' tubeyou. If you're into good black metal (yes, there is such a thing, quite a lot of it actually!) then this is the band. I reviewed their last record here. To sum it up, the thing sounds as though you are listening to it through a rain storm. It goes great with reading John Crowley's Little, Big as it has a forest tone, all dry branches and soiled, dead leaves, mud trails and flickers at the edge of your vision.

Black Sabbath in the Studio

I have no illusions that "13" - 3/4ths of the original Black Sabbath's first record since the late 70's - will be good, but hopefully I'm wrong. Sabbath's original "Ozzy" years are among the most cherished albums I've encountered in my lifetime, but you know - you can't go home again. The band released a song sometime in the late 90's, I believe it was called psycho man and it was so terrible I'd prefer not to even look it up to confirm that. I'd prefer you abstain from doing the same.

The reunion is not complete as Bill Ward isn't involved, but I can't say the idea of Iommi, Butler and Ozzy recording a new record doesn't intrigue me at least a little bit, thus the video above. You never know. (yes you do!).
