2018: November 15th

My copy of Thought Gang's long-lost album arrived a day early, so I've already spent a fair amount of time with it (though not nearly enough). So far, this is my favorite track on the album. My mid-90s self would have been all about this one.

Another day home feeling like shite. Trying to use the time wisely, though I've yet to do any writing, which I have planned in a bit. Spent the morning reading old issue of Classic X-Men, as I've been wanting to re-read a large chunk of Chris Claremont's Uncanny X-Men for quite some time now but never manage to find the time. I started off with the Dark Phoenix Saga and will move on from there. There are a few holes in the collection, but for the most part I have it all from Dark Phoenix on. A few of my favorite issues that I am looking forward to re-reading:

Fede Alvarez just proved what I've been saying for going on six years now. Thank you, Mr. Alvarez. Now, how about that sequel???

My friend Daniel just published a beautiful, heartfelt goodbye to Stan Lee. Read it HERE.
Playlist from 11/14:

Ghost Cop - One Weird Trick
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - B-Sides & Rarities Vol. III
Thought Gang - Eponymous

Card of the day:

I continue to encounter larger, archetypal guidance. I'm reading this as a suggestion to keep up a new yogic routine, which I began with two days last week and subsequently slacked off on.

2018: July 11th

Because I'm still charged from that video I posted yesterday for The Culling, and I'm crushing on her pretty hard at the moment.

Playlist from yesterday:

John Carpenter - Lost Themes
Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Everybody Knows This is Nowhere
The Veils - Total Depravity
Various Artists - Twin Peaks Ssn 3 OST
Jeff Grace - House of the Devil OST
Secret Chiefs 3 Traditionalists - Le Mani Destre Recise Degli Ultimi Uomini

AND my good friend Chris from Drinking with Comics gave me a sneak peak at some of the tracks on the forthcoming new Thirsty Crows record his band has been recording for Batcave Records. It is awesome!

Card of the day:

Willing a spark of intuition or creativity into a form. Again, the writing analogy. Also, notice in spite of yesterday's deviance, I've gone Fool, Magus Priestess in succession; I have to look into what exactly that can represent, as I've not seen that before.

Also, I'm always drawn to this card for the grid, which represents order to me. And the camel, a representation for the Hebrew letter Gimel, which is the third letter of the sacred alphabet and corresponds to the third Sephiroth, Binah, the Great Mother. Lots of water in this card, and it shows in the feminine (ie the suite of Cups; Emotions) attributes of the card. Thus, the Priestess. And interesting that one of my setbacks in working on Please Believe Me is probably because the main character is both female and elderly, and I'm attempting to find an authentic voice there. I've re-written Heddie Larsen now multiple times to try and find and air of authenticity.

2018: February 1st, 6:31 AM

Last night I absolutely killed the penultimate scene in my current writing project. It felt great. Today - if I have a chance - I'll move into the climax. This is all still just first pass, rough draft but it's still major progress. Once I write the climax and finale, I'll go back and add in a few chapters that I've come up with to flesh certain characters or ideas out - stuff I didn't know we were going to need until construction of the ongoing continuity revealed their necessity to me. One is probably a scene with Truby's "Half-man", although we intend to turn that on its ear a bit. After that I'll run everything through Grammarly, then tidy up and send it to Keller, who will read and add concepts/scenes/edits accordingly. Our deadline is in April - Thursday the 12th to be exact. Which is serendipitous indeed...

Started my musical day with Track #3 on Swans' 2016 release The Glowing Man. This is the title track and it's just fantastic. There's a real sense that Michael Gira's sound lodge has been influenced by the doors on this one, and after all the spacey effulgence that comprises the roughly the first half of the track, listen for the sheer awesomeness that Gira and company pull out at around the 15 minute mark. Mmmm-mmm!

Playlist for yesterday looks like this:

Zen Guerilla - Positronic Raygun
Nevermen - Eponymous
Faith No More - Angel Dust
Glass Animals - How to be a Human Being
Tuneyards - I Can Feel You Creep into my Private Life
Zen Guerilla - Positron Raygun
The Horrors - Primary Colours
Deafheaven - Sunbather
ttt (Crosses) Eponymous

Card of the day is The Priestess:

"The Will (Womb) that takes the Magus' spark (seed) and gives it form."

Can denote change/fluctuation; governed by gracious or pure influences.

The active difference between this and the preceding card in the deck's Major Arcana, The Magus, is that the Magus generates their own power, the Priestess taps into the power of the Universe.

Note the grid - I liken the difference outlined in that last sentence as the difference between so-called High Magick and Chaos Magick, the school I have always identified the most with. Chaos Magick is hacking the operating system or grid of reality. And there's that grid...

Looking forward to Sonny's Joup Friday Album tomorrow. In the meantime, I'll be posting the second installment of my "Drinking, Fighting, F*&king, and Crying later today. This week's song topic? Fighting.
