Brand New Cherry Flavor Tastes Great!!!

A little MadLove to start the week. My Favorite track from an album that's pretty much all favorite tracks.

Watch:

This show blew me away. I haven't taken to anything like this in a while.

First: Brand New Cherry Flavor is, I think, pretty much Season 5 of Channel Zero, Nick Antosca's former anthology series on SyFy. If you haven't seen that, all four seasons are currently on Shudder and are 100% worth your time. They are fantastic. Basically, SyFy canceled it, and Netflix gave him to do something similar. Channel Zero's seasons are all stand-alone and all adapted from Creepy Pastas. BNCF is an adaptation of a novel of the same name by Todd Grimson. The book is way out of print, but don't worry - someone is bound to remedy that with a new edition any minute now.

Second: Mr. Antosca is unapologetically a huge David Lynch fan, and there's a ton of that 'flavor' that he brings to his work. It's especially here. It's in exactly the most respectful, awesome way, too. Not imitation, but influence. I expand on this idea a bit in the new episode of The Horror Vision that drops tomorrow. At the time, I'd only seen the first episode of BNCF. K and I watched that Friday night. Yesterday, we did the remaining seven episodes because we just couldn't stop.

2019: January 19th

When I saw the title of this movie, I thought it was going to be a flick in the realm of Hobo with a Shotgun. But no. This, this looks Epic. LOVE this movie poster:

K and I finished Channel Zero: The Dream Door last night. Wow. Fantastic. I don't know that I've even mentioned the show in these pages yet; we watched the first season about a month ago - Seasons 1-3 are streaming exclusively on Shudder - and I was blown away by that, too. Harley Peyton is one of the Producers, and if you are a Twin Peaks fan from back in the day, you'll know his name as a major creative force on that show's original run, especially during Season 2. And Mr. Peyton's Peaks experience is definitely felt in Channel Zero. The first Season's finale so resembled the Season 2 finale of Twin Peaks that I was floored. This was homage, not an egregious repeating. And again, in The Dream Door's finale, we get some crazy Lynchian imagery. SO good. Can't wait to watch Seasons 2 and 3 - it's an anthology, hence our out of order viewing - but I'm now tempted to save those seasons because also yesterday, on this week's episode of the Shock Waves podcast, I learned Channel Zero has been cancelled.

DAMN YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eights are Hod. Splendor. Eights are tricky. Splendor can be interpreted as spectacle, and spectacle can be distracting. Literally, an Interference. This is a beautiful card, but its beauty is wrought with images of death and destruction, an unstable background, Chaos is close. I'm not entirely certain how to interpret this today. I have a large writing session coming up to snap a few last bits into place and then continue editing the book in Grammarly, chapter by chapter. After that, it's reading the full text aloud to K. Perhaps the interference I'm being warned about here is because for days I have just barely dodged the urge to start reading it now. I can't do that; even though I have a small checklist of images and bits to pepper back through the chapters, changing one thing, no matter how minutely, may cause ripples backward or forward through the story that then also have to be smoothed. Most of my focus is in the second act, but I do not yet know if that focus will end up requiring a smoothing out in the first act. So reading now would be counterproductive. Even though I want to.

Yep. That sounds like my Interference and as is often the case, it's from myself.

2018: August 9th

New Author & Punisher up for Pre-order on Relapse Records HERE. This guy continues to baffle and amaze me with his post-apocalyptic insanity.

I have heard many good things about Channel Zero and it hits Shudder today, so I'm looking forward to that.

Not sure if I mentioned this before, but I recently started a re-watch of Deadwood, as K has never seen it and the news of the forthcoming movie caused quite a stir in me. I've begun re-watches before, but never made it very far. Thus, I've actually seen the first season enough to know a lot of it intimately. What's my favorite scene?

Al Swearengen may just be my favorite character ever. As dark as the show can be, it keeps a smile on my face almost the entire time.

New Sandman Universe #1 acquired and read, although it wasn't a very good read, rife with distractions as it was (my own fault). A good set-up for what is to come, which I must admit I'm still excited about. I've avoided this whole Doomsday Clock thing that has merged the Watchmen with the DCU proper - I'm not necessarily against the idea of the Watchmen being placed in the DCU, I just don't really care and have heard it's not very good. The Sandman Universe however, is apparently something I cannot ignore.

Card of the day:

So this is either me suffering from wishful thinking that Please Believe Me will be finished today - I just can't seem to nail the tone for the end of this but I am so close!!! - or it's a problem of over imagination, which could be gumming up the works on the ending. Either way, I have some work cut out for me today.
