NEW GHOST!!! Rats

Almost forgot - Ghost dropped this earlier today or yesterday. I haven't watched/heard it yet, so I'm gonna post it and watch for the first time right along any one discovering it here. Album is in pre-order HERE. It's title is Prequelle and the cover art is fantastic:

Ghost Tonight at the Wiltern!!!

And I cannot wait! Also, intrigued as to who is opening the show. Last night's was Deafheaven and although I would have loved to see them I have a pretty good feeling about the fact that they haven't announced anything yet (at least that I have seen).

I'm not quite as rabidly into the new Popestar E.P. as I am the group's previous recordings, but this particular song I LOVE (the rest I'm warming to and, really, any Ghost is good in my book).

Ghost interviewed at the grammys

The woman interviewing them clearly has no prior knowledge of them. I'm sure that was the case with most of the people at/watching the grammy's. That makes this all the better.

Thanks to my friend John the Viking - if he hadn't shared this clip with me I would have never seen it.

Papa kind of reminds me a bit of a less hostile Mike Patton circa Angel Dust era as he subtly makes fun of the interviewer's questions. Favorite quote: "You want to win to win prizes for what you do."

Awesome!

Ghost Performs Circe on Colbert

I've never seen any of the shows Mr. Colbert has hosted before but I LOVE his ice cream. Perhaps Ben and Jerry can give Ghost a flavor as well? Something like Chocolate-covered peanut butter crosses?

Just a thought.

Ghost - From the Pinnacle to the Pit

This dropped sometime within the last week and since then I've habitually forgotten to post it here. Exceptional as usual. The "new" Papa certainly takes his gig more seriously than the previous one did. No hedonistic Vegas outings for this guy - all dark work. And we're all the better for it.

If you haven't heard it yet this should help convince you of its majesty. If you dig it, buy it and help them 'take over the world'.

Bizarre Ghost Late Night TV Ad From Back in May

Holy cow! Following the link to the Loud Wire that I referenced in my previous "From the Pinnacle to the Pit" post but had not read completely until just now, I realize how much I've missed on the developments in this completely awesome and bizarre band. This aired on VH1 in late May, during a late-night broadcast of Caddy Shack.

What?

This is the kind of marketing that I absolutely love and will endear me to Ghost even more. If that's possible.

Read the Loud Wire article linked above for more deets.

Brand New Ghost Track: From The Pinnacle To The Pit

AWESOME! And, more so than on Circe, the other track to surface so far from forthcoming record Meliora (pre-order here), on From The Pinnacle to the Pit you can very much tell that we once again have a new Papa Emeritus (number III for those counting along).

The fact that Ghost have switched singers for each of their three records is just stunning to me. I'll admit it's going to be hard to beat Papa II, however if this track shows a bit of bite to the vocals and Circe shows his 'sweet', melodic side, I'm really going to love this record as much as the other two. After seeing the video for Circe it has really grown to be one of my favorite Ghost tracks.

Ghost - Circe Video

This video is awesome - it's amazing to me that Ghost can continue to display the sense of humor that they do and still maintain the insidious 70s satanic horror vibe they pull off so well. And if the song itself, which available for free download on their site, is any indication, the new record Meliora will be an even more epic step in this brilliant band's evolution.

Ghost B.C. Papaganda Episode 2

Published almost two months ago I'm not sure how I missed this one. Well, actually yes I am. I've been so consumed with the end stages of writing my novel that I've not really paid attention to anything else. Well, besides comics.

At any rate, Infestissumam remains in regular rotation on my record player and the more of these guys I see the more I genuinely like them. Usually this much 'behind the scenes' would have a negative impact on a band so 'steeped in mystery' but I really think Ghost are musical and marketing geniuses, or at least the employee one of the latter.

Ghost BC Release Covers EP

Had a feeling this was coming back several months ago, then it just kinda didn't and I became distracted. So I owe special thanks to Heaven is an Incubator for posting this a little while ago. You can get it on iTunes or better yet a record store if you happen to have one of those anywhere near you. Or you can order it directly from the band here where it's pretty much dirt cheap ($12 bucks for the vinyl before shipping!!!).

Four covers (Depeche Mode, Roky Erickson, Army of Lovers and the ABBA song Marionette in case you missed the special edition of Infestissumam) rounded out with a live version of Secular Haze. Produced by Dave Grohl. And Satan.

Ghost - Papaganda Episode One: The Olde One

My good friend Tori is the one who turned me on to Ghost back when Opus Eponymous was released. I dug the album but there was something that kept me from really loving it. There seemed to be a certain... I don't know if lethargy is the exact right word, but it's the word I always think of when I listen to or contemplate that album. When the hype started for the band's second album, this year's Infestissumam Tori told me she thought the band had switched singers. This intrigued me, however once the album came out and I found that it did everything so much better than the previous one did I found it hard to reconcile the idea of the singer having been changed. Well, unless this is an elaborate hoax - which it might be - this video show's that Tori was completely correct.

In Solitude

The thing that initially caught my eye when I read about In Solitude on Brooklyn Vegan for the first time this afternoon (here) is the word Solitude - whenever I see it in a musical context I always think immediately of one of my favorite Black Sabbath songs, track seven on the band's classic third album Master of Reality. Anyway, I followed the link, hit play on the above widget and my ears perked up. "Sounds a bit like Ghost" I thought. Then I read the article and saw that the Vegan mentions that, "The band, which may or may not contain members of Ghost BC..."

Whoah.

Follow the link back to read more, but it looks like Metal Blade is releasing a long-player from In Solitude on 10/01 and there are tour dates.

Ghost BC - Secular Haze Live in Linkoping

And to be complete I should post this as well. LOVE the stained glass in the background.

Both these last two posts for Secular Haze can be found - along with a WEALTH of awesome imagery that will only further enhance the perona of this amazing band - on their website, which can be accessed via the following links.

Ghost BC - Secular Haze

I'm so wrapped up in this ghost record right now that I'm revisiting a lot of the tracks and images released in the lead-up to it. I realized I never posted this one.

This and Nick Cave and the Bad Seed's Push the Sky Away are easily going to rank in my top ten of the year.

Ghost BC - Stream Infestissumam

Pitchfork has had this up for at least a week, but after going to metal sucks and seeing this handy dandy little spotify widget at the tail end of a post with highlights from the band's recent Reddit AMA, I had to add it here as well. I received my copy of Infestissumam today via my lovely wife and it really is wonderful. I like it better than the first record, Opus Eponymous. Really great and the final track, Monstrance Clock, is vying for my favorite on the record (at this time). Here's what metal sucks quoted wikipedia for definition of Monstrance Clock:

"The Monstrance clock, or mirror clock, developed during the Renaissance. The monstrance was a cross-shaped gold or silver vessel which played an important part in church ritual and often incorporated sacred figures as part of the design. The clock made use of a rotating ball at the top or in the base to indicate the time of day. Monstrance clocks and crucifix clocks remained fashionable until the eighteenth century."

New Ghost B.C. track

So, brooklyn vegan  has a new track from Infestissumam, the new album by Ghost B.C. (formerly Ghost). Go here to hear that.

Above I've posted some new stuff from the album as well. Infestissumam is out TOMORROW so if you dig what you hear, go buy it, or pre-order it on the band's website here.
