Charles Bradley's Legacy

We lost a treasure when Charles Bradley died, five years ago today. I cracked out Changes a few weeks ago - it'd been a minute, and I'd forgotten just how awesome this man's music is.

Watch:

I've not seen any of the films M. Knight Shamalan has released since his career's first iteration. I stopped before The Happening, and never really looked back. I've always thought M. Knight became a product of his own signature, so to speak. I don't think this was entirely his fault - the Sixth Sense created an expectation that all of his films would have that famous M. Knight twist, and of those original films, only Signs reigns worthy of revisiting in my head (granted, I've not revisited any of the others, but maybe one day). However, I am a HUGE fan of Servant, the show he brought to Apple TV, and thus, I'm willing to give him a chance. Also, and what I didn't know when I first wrote this, Knock at the Cabin is an adaptation of Paul Tremblay's The Cabin at the End of the World.

Sold.

Extra sold when I see Rupert Grint is involved.

I'd seen some of the Harry Potter flicks previously, due to my ex being a big fan. I liked the third one, largely due to Gary Oldman. The rest I have next to no memory of, so my love of Grint stems from his portrayal of Julian on Servant

The film looks extremely tense and, though I stopped the trailer about two minutes in, sets up a pretty big "What the hell is happening here?" I haven't read the novel but have been meaning to since finishing Head Full of Ghosts back around the time its follow-up came out.

2018: August 1st

Another fantastic Airiel song that the boys played Sunday at the Echoplex. Yes, I'm still living off the energy from the show - I'm waking up with Tennis System as I type this.

NCBD: The return of Rick Remender and Jerome Opena's Seven to Eternity!!!

Playlist from yesterday:

Algiers - The Underside of Power
Airiel - Winks & Kisses: Melted EP
Airiel - Molten Young Lovers
Deafheaven - Ordinary Corrupt Human Love
Ministry - Dark Side of the Spoon
The Go Go's - Vacation

Also, broke back into the Shockwaves Horror Podcast and I am certifiably sold on it now. Episode 104 has an interview with Paul Tremblay, whose 2015 novel A Head Full of Ghosts should be on every Horror Hound's reading list. Best take on a possession story in ages. And... in discussing his literary peers, Mr. Tremblay mentions that one of my favorite recent novellas, Nathan Ballingrud's The Visible Filth, just wrapped filming with Babak Anvari at the helm, the release date slated for March, 2019. I could not be more excited for that!

Card of the Day:

Can indicate Occult Study. Interesting, as I've just begun a re-read on Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham's Nameless, and long-time readers here will remember I got into a little bit of trouble doing occult research/annotations for that series back when it came out.

2018: April 21st 2:39 PM

Never did get around to that Sleep record yesterday. I'm headed to Long Beach later today after I get off work, so I may just wait and try and pick up the vinyl then. I'm really saving that first listen for ideal conditions, i.e. smoke and vinyl.

It was announced recently that Oz/Osgood Perkins, director of The BlackCoat's Daughter and I am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House and son of Anthony Perkins, will be directing the film adaptation of Paul Tremblay's brilliant novel A Headfull of Ghosts. I can't wait, and it made me want to go back and re-watch The Blackcoat's Daughter, which I loved despite an interruption in the middle of my initial viewing last year. Here's the trailer in case you haven't seen it:

Not much of a playlist yesterday:

Metallica - Garage Days Re-revisited
Deafheaven - New Bermuda

Card of the day:

Again! I think this is pointing to the fairly lackluster first day on the Keller project, henceforth abbreviated here as T12.
